So here's the thing. I'm constantly giving my sister a hard time about not updating her blog for months at a time and today I realized that
I hadn't updated my own blog in over a month! About time for a run-down on goings on, don't you think? Well, October and November were pretty exciting for us. Meg (my MIL) came for a two week visit in October. Let me tell ya, it is always wonderful to have her around!! After she left, we had about a week to "relax" and then Dad & Nancy came for a 5 day visit. I, unfortunately, had to work the better part of that time so I didn't get to spend nearly as much time with them as I wanted. But it was still very nice to have the company here...cuz, ya know, it gets kind of lonely out here! Anyhow, while Dad & Nancy were here, we celebrated Douglas's 2nd birthday. HIS SECOND BIRTHDAY!!! My how time does fly. It's extremely difficult for me to realize that my BABY is quickly entering little boyhood! He's still very skinny but he's TALL. Taller, in fact, than most of his 3 & 4 year old playmates. If that whole theory of "double a child's height on their 2nd birthday and you will get the height that they will be when they are fully grown" is correct, then Douglas is going to be in the 6'2" to 6'3" range! Not HUGE, but tall. I also joined a mommies network - a group of local mommies that get together weekly/bi-weekly to have their kids play together. It's been nice to be able to get out of the house & have Douglas get some playtime with kids his own age. He's still not talking a whole lot & tends to play on his own because he can't really communicate with other kids but he will play "tag" and "duck, duck, grey duck" (or duck, duck, goose if you live anywhere but Minnesota). We had a fantastic Thanksgiving day...just the three of us together. I made the full spread again this year (glazed meatballs, spicy cracker dip, green bean casserole, corn pudding, home made mac 'n cheese, stuffing, turkey, gravy...you get my drift). We had left-overs for days and actually ended up throwing a big chuck of the food away! I suppose next year, I will have to plan a bit better so we don't have quite as much food left over. That, or we need to have more people over for turkey day. Anyhow, this week brought about the end of the fall semester for me and after all grades were entered in the books, I found that I earned two very strong B's (an 89.6% in Biology and an 89.78% in Psychology
). No Dean's List for me this semester, I fear! Oh well. I will try again next semester to see if I can pull down at least ONE more perfect semester before I leave Parkland! We are gearing up to leave for Illinois tomorrow after Allen gets home from work. We plan to drive all night long - and our excitement for coming home for Christmas should keep us going all night long too! In the few hours I have remaining before we leave, I have a boatload of things to do! Laundry, sewing, wrapping presents, cleaning house, dying my hair, but most importantly....PACKING!!! :-) I hope each of you has a wonderful Christmas and that you are surrounded by family & friends & the people you love most in this world!
PS -- I decided not to put up the picture of Douglas sitting on Santa's lap with his finger shoved all the way up his nose...Douglas had his finger up his own nose, not Santa's nose...or Santa's finger up Doug's nose...or Santa's finger up his own nose....I guess that sentence had a lot of meanings that could be read into it....
