How Horrible...Absolutely Horrible
I'm a killer. I killed a dog. A long-haired Dachshund. Poor lil guy. At least he went quickly and didn't suffer. Poor lil guy. And no, I didn't use my bare hands or anything. I hit him with the car....

Oh my....
The end of another week has come. The end of what feels like an exceptionally long week. Douglas has been....keeping me on my toes, to say the very least! As I've mentioned on facebook & in emails, Douglas has discovered climbing and has turned the living room (and bathroom and bedroom) into his own personal jungle gym. Nothing is safe from his climbing abilities! Needless to say that this makes me quite nervous. I keep having visions of him taking a nose dive off the arm of the sofa and busting all his teeth out or breaking an arm or something - I suppose that I just need to chillax about this because he is a little boy and this is something that little boys do, right?
School is going. Right now I have bean sprouts (sugar snap pea sprouts to be more specific) growing in drinking glasses on our kitchen counter....aaaah, the joys of doing science labs in your own kitchen!
Work is keeping me busy too. In fact, I had a customer this past weekend who required LOTS of assistance - picking fabric, how MUCH fabric to get, how much poly-fil to get, etc., etc., etc. She had an idea that she wants to make "floor pillows" for babies so they can lay on their tummies & still be on something soft. So I helped her as best I could. She told me she had NO sewing experience, didn't know anything about machines or sewing & was going to send this material & everything to somebody else to make the pillows for her. Well, all my help with her caught the attention of my manager & earned me a set of "cut above" scissors. These are little pins that we can wear on our name tags. They are symbolic of going above & beyond our job descriptions. Technically, this is my 3rd set! A few weeks ago, I had a gal send an email to our corporate office regarding the help I gave her & that earned me another set of scissors. It's nice to be appreciated. Anyhow, back to the baby pillow lady. I go into work last night and find that this gal left a message for me & wanted me to call her as soon as possible. I thought perhaps we had overcharged her or she had questions about the care of the material or something. Nope, nothing like that. She actually wanted to talk to me about sewing these pillows for her. The gal she was originally going to send everything to lived in Indiana and she wanted someone closer to sew these for her so she could be a little more hands on. Now, I don't mind helping people out in the store - answering their questions as best I can, giving tips, etc. But when it comes to someone commissioning me to do a sewing job for them, well, I just don't have the confidence to do that! Or the time. I barely have time to do my own sewing let alone someone elses. Needless to say, I told the gal I would do what I could to see if I could find someone who would be interested in doing a bit of sewing on the side for her. But it was nice to know that my help & assistance gave this lady the confidence in me to do sewing work on the side too! Apparently I can BS my way along quite well!!! :-)
That's the story for the week anyhow. I did get my kitchen curtains cut out. Yippee! Have I started sewing on them yet? No siree, Bob! Maybe this weekend (if I can get a few moments in the sewing room) I might be able to get the panels done at least. Whenif I complete them, I will be sure to post pictures so you call can enjoy them too!

RIP
Rest in peace, Patrick Swayze. We will all remember you for your cinematic contributions - Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Roadhouse, Too Wong Foo -- Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Point Break, and all the others I have forgotten. You put up a valiant fight against a devastating disease and have given many people the courage to keep on fighting. Thank you!

Alive & Kickin'
I don't really have much to update you on. Not too much has changed around here in the past few days....aside from the fact that Douglas REEEEAAAALLLLLLYYYYY seems to be entering the terrible twos. Both Allen & I have been having a difficult time with him. Not all the time, but he does cop a major 'tude at least once or twice....or three times per day. I've been trying to keep tabs on these tantrums and have noticed a few things:
1). He gets cranky when he's hungry.
2). He gets cranky when he's tired.
3). He gets cranky if he doesn't get enough direct attention from mom or dad.
Usually, we watch PBS during the day but lately he's been "screaming" at the TV. As soon as I shut the TV off, he's fine and will go about playing with his toys. But I think the biggest problem for him is that he gets bored. He stuffed all of his toys under the couch and I got really tired of digging them out so I left them under there for about a week. That week was HORRIBLE with him. But the day I cleaned everything out from under the couch & resorted all of his toys, he was a perfect angel. It was like Christmas for him - seeing all these toys that he loves playing with.
I don't know, I guess I am rambling. I'm sure there are other parents out there with worse kids than mine but still, I was hoping to not go thru this for a while. He's not two yet so the "terrible twos" can wait!!!!

A New Toy?
I guess that since he's big enough to get in here, perhaps he is big enough to start folding the clothes too!
Update for the Week
It's been a few days since I posted anything so here's an update for you all:
*I received notice from our dental insurance company that they will NOT be covering the cost for the night-time mouth guard for me. What that means is that until we have an extra $500 to buy one, I will just have to "grin & bear it" - referring to the jaw/neck/ear "muscle" pain I have been having for the past several weeks. I have been doing the other things the dentist recommended - a warm compress, stretching & jaw strengthening exercises.
*School is in full swing for me and I am learning lots and lots. As I've told a few of you already, I'm taking 2 classes this semester and one of those classes doesn't start until mid-October. So for right now, I am just working on a Plant Biology class. Because it's online, I have to do "labs" at home. The other day, I made paper out of dryer lint! Even though it didn't work out so well, it was interesting none the less!
*Douglas seems to have entered the "terrible twos" already. He's been quite the little stinker the past week or so. Lots of tantrums, hitting, screaming, etc. I think he just finished a growth spurt too. He's gotten taller & his feet are bigger too. A few weeks ago he was eating like a horse...then he started tripping over everything & nothing all at the same time...now, he barely eats anything. According to my mom, these were all signals of a growth spurt for my sisters & I when we were kids.
*Allen is still working on installing the new HVAC system. After the system gets put in, there will be lots of drywall to repair & painting to do....so the project is pretty far from being completed. He's got other projects that he wants to work on when this one is completed so it's pretty obvious that he likes to keep himself busy!!!
Well, I hope the week finds you all well & enjoying the weather. It feels like fall is coming -- the weather out here has been pretty bearable (almost cool!) for the past several days. I even noticed that some of our trees are changing colors and some are starting to lose their leaves. I think it's a bit early but hey, I'll take what I can get.

One Year Anniversary
This weekend marks the one year anniversary of my dad's motorcycle accident. I'm happy to report that, aside from now having atrial fibrillation, my dad is back to full health. He's even back to riding motorcycles again! I just want to take this time to remind everyone to watch out for bikers!!! Their vehicles are smaller and sometimes harder to see, but they are there. Please be safe as you drive or ride!!! Many motorcyclists haven't been as lucky as my dad so everyone please, please, please - be safe & be watchful too!
